Lets Talk about tourney fighting.
If there was a double elimination tournament at events, would you compete? Even if it ran at the same time as melee practice?
Would you be interested in having a place where your name is posted for 1 year and the date/place of the event?
If a prize were offered, what kind of items for a prize would be best received?

Yes to all the above. As for a prize, it could be anything the prize donator could afford...everything from a cool video like the "jeu de la hache" one on Pollaxe fighting, or something simple like a 2 pack of duct & strapping tape.
I was thinking of trying to coordinate with other MIC's at some of the longer running events, to include a double elim tourney, so we could start to bring those back.

I'd be interested as well. But I also suspect if we just set it up right we could have it at the same event as a melee practice w/o to much issue. I've noticed we often try to cram everything into the same time period at events. As long as thing were scheduled and posted well ahead of time, I think people would be wiling to work with it. One thing I despise is looking at a website for an event 2 days before an event and there isn't any sort of schedule posted. This forces me to chose and I often discount the event at that point. It tells me the MIC has nothing in order.
Fire up an event with inspections @ 8am .. double elim starting @ 9am. It could be done and give a break for melee to start @ noon running to 2pm or 3pm .. with a break and then champions could hold the field for a bit. Or others can go get some food/shower in plenty of time for court/dance/hanging out.
With gas prices as they are, I'd prefer to hit a local event that I can spend most of the day at and really enjoying friends and fighters and feel like I've gotten my $ worth (both gas & gate fee).

Thing to do is get it rolling.
Contact MiC of an event and get it coordinated. Make certain that the tourney is listed on the event web-site/flyer.
We will probably have to supply the marshal for the tourney for the first few.
But yes, it could very easily be done before the melee stuff starts up.
